Gloria M. Rust

Gloria M. Rust, age 86, of Spencer, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her home near Spencer.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. at the Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer and then continued with a 7 p.m. wake service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish of Boyd County-St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer with Rev. Tim Podraza as celebrant. Music was provided by organist, Sue Connot and the St. Mary's Catholic Church Choir.

Pallbearers were Leo Johnson, Don Cizek, Harold Klasna, Lowell Fisher, Frank Zidko and Charles Zidko.

Honorary pallbearers were Roger Angus, Nick Keller, Mark Engelhaupt, Bill Engelhaupt, Gailen McGill and Leonard Ohri.

Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Spencer.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer was in charge of arrangements.

Gloria M. Hambek, daughter of Jospeh L. and Marie (Sedlacek) Hambek, was born Aug. 24, 1926, on a farm located south of Spencer.

She attended Boyd County Rural School District #6 and graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. After receiving her normal training from Wayne State College, Gloria taught in rural schools in Holt and Boyd counties.

On May 26, 1947, Gloria was married to Willard M. Rust at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer. The couple were blessed with three sons, Willard J., Roger L. and Rodney J. Gloria and Willard began their married life on a farm near Bristow. In 1955 they moved to their present farm northwest of Spencer. In 1969 they moved from their original farm site near the Ponca Creek and built a new house along Highway 12 that they called home for 43 years and where Gloria passed away. During her lifetime Gloria worked beside her husband as he ran Rust Construction with their sons and later operated Rustgo Company until their retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society, serving as an officer for several years, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed serving the community being involved in the Spencer Community Choir and was a Cub Scout den mother. She belonged to the Thrifty Homemaker's Club and her rosary group.

Gloria enjoyed gardening, especially her rose garden, painting, crafts, cooking and collecting dolls. She enjoyed music and was very proud to be a part of the Spencer Community Players. She found great joy in traveling and was blessed to go to Europe three times. 

Gloria is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Willard M. Rust of Spencer; three sons, Willard J. (Patsy) Rust, Roger L. (Leslie) Rust and Rodney J. (Kim) Rust, all of Spencer; six grandchildren, Jason Keller of Crestwood, KY; Thomas Rust of Omaha; Michael (Pamela) Rust and Steven Rust, all of Lincoln and Karmen and Cameron Rust, both of Spencer; two brothers, John Hambek of Bristow and James Hambek of Camarillo, CA and one sister, Margaret Ludeman of Fort Pierre, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Hambek and a grandson, Ryan Rust.
