Fern C. Stacken Goodman

Creighton — Fern C. Stacken Goodman, 93, of Creighton, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025 at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Rev. Janelle Siffring officiated.

Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Fern, daughter of J. Frederick and Mae B. (Brokaw) Christiansen, was born May 27, 1931, at Plainview. Fern graduated from Creighton High School in 1949 and Wayne State College in 1952. 

On April 9, 1953, Fern married James Christian Stacken at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. They were blessed with four children Dwain, Joy, Daryl and Daren. 

On May 27, 1995, Fern married William Goodman.

Fern lived in the Creighton area all of her life. She taught at Fairview School east of Creighton for four years, was a farmer's wife and worked as a secretary at Art's Propane in Creighton for 34 years. Fern enjoyed working with her fiancé Art all those years and her grandchildren lovingly called him “grandpa.”

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. 

Fern enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and cards, visiting with her neighbors and especially spending time with her family.

Fern is survived by her three children Dwain (Gayle) Stacken, Joy (Drew) Nelson and Daren Stacken; two stepdaughters Deb (Mike) Jensen and Rebecca (Rick) Hauf; 11 grandchildren Brook Thurman, Nichole (David) Beyers, Lindsay (Mel) Nelson, Kolby (Ashlie) Nelson, James (Paula) Stacken, Candi Stacken, Travis (Heather) Stacken, JC Stacken, Hope (Travis) Weis, Ean Stacken and Levi (Brynn) Stacken; four step-grandchildren Jonathan Jensen, Ramsey Jensen, Ryan (Britney) Hauf and Roeby (Hannah) Hauf; 32 great-grandchildren Jamee, Gracie, Bode, Elliot, Emma, Claire, Clark, Dru, Maelie, Kamie, Grady, Aiden, Carter, Lexi, Cassidy, Tucker, Grace Mae, Klare Marie, Laredo, Lane, Logan, Colt, Augustus, Rebecca, Khristina (Ethan), Stephanie, Jessica, Donavan, Jazzmin (Matt), Carley, Harlie and Wyatt; eight step-great-grandchildren Brayden, Rekaya, Mason, Baylee Jo, Jaidyn, Skylar, Mataya and Piper; two sisters Dorothy Babcock and Esther Behrens; one brother Leland (Karen) Christiansen; and two sisters-in-law Luella Veenker and Marcelline Christiansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Jim Stacken and Bill Goodman; fiancé Art Goedeker; son Daryl Stacken; four brothers Vernon (Bernice) Christiansen, Norman (Loretta) Christiansen, Don Christiansen and Ernest (Sharon) Christiansen; four brothers-in-law George Babcock, Ralph Claussen, Marlin Behrens and Jim Veenker; two grandsons-in-law Troy Thurman and Darin Farewell; and one great-grandson Tyce Thurman.
