Ewing — Eugene "Gene"  Louis Koenig, 85, of Ewing, died Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Arbor Care Center in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Monday, July 29, 2024 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing with a wake service.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the church in Ewing, Fr. Frank Baumert officiated.

Burial was in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Ewing.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater was in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene was born on Dec. 17, 1938 to Adolph and Audrey (Tomjack) Koenig at Ewing. He graduated from Ewing High School with the Class of 1956.  

He enlisted in the National Guard on Nov. 6, 1962 until Nov. 5, 1965.  

On April 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Maxine” Noffke. They made their home on the family farm south of Ewing. He continued to farm and raise cattle for most of his life.  

He enjoyed watching football and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.  

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing.   

     Gene is survived by his wife Maxine Koenig; four children Connie Koenig of Norfolk, Kenneth (Brittney) Koenig and Kevin (Gina) Koenig, all of Ewing,  and Cindy (Marcus) Warnke of Lincoln; nine grandchildren Kurt Sisson of Omaha, Brandi Cox and Cyra Williams, both of Norfolk, Natasha DeWald, Katie Cunningham, Ashley Koenig and Michael Koenig, all of Ewing, Hannah Warnke of New London, CT and Hunter Warnke of Lincoln; nine great-grandchildren; one sister Annabelle Adamson of O'Neill; and one brother Tom Koenig of Elwood.

      He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Audrey, two brothers Leonard and Jerry and his in-laws Frank and Bertha Nolfke.
