Stuart — Edward "Ed" Francis Walnofer, 88, of Stuart, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with his family by his side.

Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 25, 2024 at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson with a rosary.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson.

Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Ed was born May 15, 1936, in Stuart to Peter and Rosa (Spottl) Walnofer. Ed grew up seven miles north and a ½ mile west of Atkinson on the "Home Place." He attended school until the eighth grade and then started farming at a young age.

Ed married Darlyne Anson on July 11, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. Ed and Darlyne farmed north of Atkinson and to this union six children were born.

Ed's greatest joy in life was farming. He continued to farm his land until the end of his life. Throughout the years he raised cattle, pigs, planted corn and put up hay. He enjoyed attending horse shows with his children. Years later Ed moved from the Home Place, after he purchased Forest (Zeke) Iverson's farm, which was his lifelong dream.

Ed enjoyed spending time with his siblings and visits with his cousin from Switzerland. He leaves behind two dogs, Eddie and Pete, who were his best friends. One of the most important things Ed taught his children was a strong work ethic.

Ed will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ed is survived by his seven children Chris (Ron) Batenhorst, Kathy (Dave) Hytrek, Patty (Jayme) Gokie and Colleen (Dick) Adair, all of Atkinson, Randy (Misti) Walnofer of Columbus, Tammy (Ryan) Miles of Omaha and Chad (Katie) Darling of Wahoo; 31 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Jim Davis of Stuart; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Rosa Walnofer; two brothers Joe (Joyce) Walnofer and Raymond (Bessie) Walnofer; three sisters Mary (Al) Valley, Paula (Ralph) Tooker and Adelia “Buttons” Davis; and three great-grandchildren.
