The O'Neill Cross Country teams had a busy week, competing at the UNK Invitational on Monday and the West Holt Invitational on Thursday. Both meets brought strong competition, and the Eagles held their own against large fields of runners.

At the UNK Invitational, the Eagles ran in the Class C division, which featured 31 schools in the girls' race and 38 schools in the boys' division. The O'Neill girls placed 20th overall, led by Kiarra Kennedy with a 31st-place finish. She was followed by teammates Emma Bowder (87th), Taya Dickau (100th), Lynn Miner (114th), and Mollie Corkle (125th) out of 198 total competitors.

On the boys' side, the Eagles placed ninth out of 38 teams. Senior Max Berg brought home a medal with a strong 20th-place finish. Other team finishes included Paul Fonseca (37th), Alonso Hernandez (51st), Tomas Arciniega (75th), Brandon Romero (103rd), Evan Cole (127th), Jordan Ramirez (139th), Brock Latzel (150th), Tyson Becker (179th), Alex Otte (227th), Alex Nelson (232nd), and Eden Calvo (263rd). A total of 340 athletes competed at the Class C race.

Just a few days later, the Eagles traveled to the West Holt Invitational, which brought together 15 schools. The O'Neill girls finished fifth overall, led by senior medalists Taya Dickau (16th) and Mollie Corkle (20th). Other Eagle placings were Lynn Miner (29th), Emma Bowder (31st), Jailyn Romesser (40th), Hailey Romesser (47th), and Emma French (48th).

In the boys' division, O'Neill tied for the team championship but came up just short in the tiebreaker, finishing as runner-up. Four Eagles medaled, with Max Berg leading the way as the runner-up, followed by Paul Fonseca (sixth), Alonso Hernandez (16th), and Tomas Arciniega (19th). Other varsity finishes were Evan Cole (27th), Brandon Romero (35th), Jordan Ramirez (43rd), Brock Latzel (49th), Tyson Becker (58th), Alex Otte (64th), Alex Nelson (78th), Logan Bradshaw (89th), Isaac Sunum (90th), Gavin Kruse (93rd), Luke Wilson (96th), Kaleb Asche (101st), and Tucker Anderson (109th).

The Eagles will look to continue their momentum as they head into the next stretch of their season. The Eagles will host the Mid-States Conference Championship on their home course. First race will start at 4:30 pm this upcoming Thursday, October 9th.
