O'NEILL'S IAN YATES looks to snag a pass from Wayne's quarter back Easton Endicott in last Friday's game.

The O'Neill Eagles are 5-0 heading into the more challenging part of their regular season. The Eagles have easily dispatched their opponents so far, except for Ord, who gave the Eagles a close game, winning by one point. The Eagles will face Pierce at home this Friday. O'Neill defeated Pierce 13-7 last year and before that lost the past four meetings. O'Neill has not won at Pierce since 1979.

The Eagles are sitting ninth in power points this year, with Columbus Lakeview seated in the number one spot. The Eagles will face Lakeview on October 24, the last regular-season game of the year in Columbus.

The Eagles out-ran and out-scored the Wayne Blue Devils this past Friday at home. The Blue Devils are now 1-4 after the 47-21 loss to the Eagles.

The Eagles got right to the job  Friday evening when, three plays into the game, Porter Mathews ran in a 50-yard touchdown to get the O'Neill offense moving. The Eagle defense held the Blue Devils out of the end zone for the half and let the Eagle offense command the field. Braxen Eichelberger, with 8:02 on the clock and after two plays in the series, ran in a 61-yard touchdown. The final score in the first quarter came when the Eagles, in seven plays, drove into Wayne territory, and Grady Welke ran in a four-yard touchdown for the Eagles.

In the second quarter, Turner Heiss drove the Eagle offense down the field and ran in a one-yard touchdown; Welke got the next score for the Eagles on a 33-yard touchdown; Eichelberger took in a 61-yard touchdown, and the last score before the half went to Mathews, who ran in a 60-yard touchdown.

The Eagles subbed the bench in the third with Wayne scoring twice on passes from Easton Edicott to  Theo Claussen to put 14 points on the board for Wayne.

In the fourth, Welke had a four-yard touchdown, and Wayne scored again on a pass from Edicott to Claussen.

Heiss threw 10 times for eight completions and averaged 12.5 yards.

Leading the Eagles running were Eichelberger with six carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns; Mathews with four carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns; Ryker Sudbeck with three carries for 40 yards; Welke with seven carries for 31 yards and two touchdowns; and Colten Shoemaker with three carries for 10 yards.
