Eagles 12-2 On Season

The O'Neill Eagles are going into tournament time with an impressive 12-2 record.

The Eagles have laid three more opponents to rest this past week overcoming Neligh/Oakdale 69-20 on Monday, Jan. 17, Wagner 83-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 18 and closed out the week downing West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic 76-36 on Friday, Jan. 21.

In the match with Neligh/Oakdale, the Eagles hurt the Warriors early, outscoring them by 14 in the first quarter and leading 35-11 at the half.

The Eagles kept running in the third with 22 points and closed out the fourth with the bench putting up 12. The Warriors only put up nine in the second half due to challenging defensive play by the Eagles.

Drew Morrow had a big game putting in 25 points, shooting four of eight for 50 percent in three-pointers and five of seven in the paint for 71 percent. Morrow also threw in three free throws and had two rebounds and four steals; Keaton Wattier 11 points, five rebounds and two steals; Landon Classen 10 points and four steals; Brady Sidak 10 points, five rebounds and one steal; Ryder Pokorny six points and one rebound; Brady Eichelberger three points and two rebounds; Colton Osborne two points and three rebounds; and Tyler Diediker two points.

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Eagles traveled up to Wagner, SD to take on the Red Raiders and came away with an 83-43 win.

Again the Eagles hit the boards hard, putting up 12 unanswered points leading 21-9 at the end of the first. The Red Raiders found their feet in the second quarter scoring 16 points but it was no match as O'Neill answered with 26. The Eagles hit hard in the third, putting up 17 unanswered points while holding Wagner to four.

Morrow had the hot hand as he led all scorers with 22 points, shooting four of seven in three-pointers and four of five in two-pointers for 80 percent. Drew had one rebound and four steals; Classen also had a good game adding 20 points and shooting seven of eight from under the bucket for 88 percent. Classen had five rebounds and two steals; Pokorny had 15 points, one rebound and two steals; Sidak eight points, six rebounds and one steal; Wattier seven points and four rebounds; Eichelberger five points, one rebound and one steal; Sean Coventry four points and four rebounds; and Diediker two points.

The Eagles hit the road traveling to West Point to take on the GACC Bluejays and thumped them 76-36.

Again, the Eagles jumped out quickly, hitting 22 points, while GACC managed 12. The second quarter saw the Eagles hold the Blue Jays to seven points while putting up 17 of their own to lead 39-19 at the half.

The Eagles held tough in the third, holding the Blue Jays to single digits and then again in the fourth while the Eagles enjoyed double digits in both stanzas.

Morrow finished his week with 26 points, shooting seven of 12 for 58 percent in three-pointers. Morrow had five rebounds and two steals; Classen had 17 points, five rebounds and two steals; Wattier 15 points, three rebounds and one steal; Pokorny nine points; Sidak four points, four rebounds and two steals; Diediker two points and one steal; Coventry two points, seven rebounds and two steals; and Osborne one point and two rebounds.
