Atkinson — Early on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, Duane Alton, age 88, formerly of Atkinson, went to be with the Lord. Memorial services will be held at a later date. The family requests to gifts or flowers. Born on Nov. 2, 1936 in Atkinson, he attended O'Neill High School. After graduating he joined the U.S. Air Force and last served at Geiger Field, WA. His career began when working for Economy Gas Station and later he purchased his own gas station, which progressed to owning 14 automotive stores over the years in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area, known as Alton Tires. He was known as one of the “Two Good Guys Who Liked To Sell Tires.” Father of two sons Matthew and Troy, plus three stepchildren Pam, Greg and Douglas; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He gave turkeys to employees at Thanksgiving and placed Christian children's books in his stores. He ran for political office and supported many other candidates. He enjoyed handing out to children two-dollar bills and hundreds of Christian children's books. He accepted Jesus Christ as a young man and proceeded to teach and attend bible studies; financially supporting Christian Schools and missionaries. Duane enjoyed displaying fireworks at his lake house, hosting neighborhood parties and entertaining family. His fondest wish is to have you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and someday join him in his heavenly home.
