Donald James Caouette, 73, formerly of O'Neill, passed away Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 at his home in Omaha. NE. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Don was born February 4th, 1950, in Montague City, MA to Albert and Shirley (Thornton) Caouette. He graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1968. Don was drafted in the U.S. Army January 24th, 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on January 23rd, 1975. Don then returned home to attend some college before he began work that eventually brought him to the O'Neill area where he met his future wife. Don married Shannon White on December 7th, 1978, in O'Neill. Together they had two children, Jessica and Larry. They made their home in O'Neill until 2017, when they moved to Omaha, NE. During his time in O'Neill, Don worked at the Upper Niobrara Resources District (NRD) as an assistant manager until his retirement. He was a member of the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93. Don loved to watch his favorite sports teams: Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, and the Patriots. He was also very passionate about The Grateful Dead and listened to them every chance he got. Don enjoyed going on drives with Shannon and seeing what adventures they could find. If you spent any time with Don, you know he was a great conversationalist and never gave up an opportunity for a chat. After he retired, Don spent time watching his grandsons play sports. Don is survived by his wife Shannon Caouette, two children Jessica Knight of Omaha, NE and Larry Caouette of Coronado, CA; and two grandsons Dexter and Weston Knight. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers Butch Caouette and Bobby Caouette.
