David Scott Murphy, 55, of O'Neill, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a parish rosary.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Rev. Bernard Starman will officiate.

Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

David was born on April 28, 1969 in O'Neill, to Calvin J. and Sharon (Howard) Murphy. He was the youngest of four children.

David graduated from O'Neill High School in 1987. Throughout his years in school, he spent time detasseling for Wilson Seed. In 1984 while he was in high school, David began working for Emmett Hay Company where he worked for the next 37 years until retiring in the winter of 2021. After retirement he started working part-time for Dollar General to keep busy and every spring, he worked for NRD planting trees.

  He was an avid collector of many things, a family history buff and a gun enthusiast.

David is survived by his mother Sharon Murphy of O'Neill; two brothers Pat Murphy and Tom Murphy, both of O'Neill; one sister Donna Hilkemeier of Broken Bow; seven nieces and nephews Michael (Chantelle) Hilkemeier of Ericson, Abby Hilkemeier of Broken Bow, Ashley (Nick) Cool of York, Brandon Campbell of Inman, Jenna (Dustin) Slaymaker of O'Neill, Michaela Hilkemeier of Boise, Idaho and Matt (Jade) Murphy of O'Neill; and  many great-nieces and -nephews and several other relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Calvin J. Murphy, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.
