Nov 29, 2023 (0)

Krista, Spencer and their three children

A new counselor and her family have moved to O'Neill.

Krista Holeman and her husband Spencer are recent transplants to the community. The couple have three young boys; Maverick, Cooper and Tate, who is just a few months old.

Krista has accepted a counselor position with the Counseling and Enrichment Center in O'Neill. “We are so happy to have Krista and her family. Having a young person to fill the job position we have at the Center is exciting, as I would like to eventually retire," says Jackie Meyer, who has been in her position for over 25 years.

Krista, who grew up in southern Nebraska and graduated high school in Kansas, attended Peru State College were she received her bachelors of science in counseling and criminal justice. Krista then attained her Masters in Counseling from Doane University.

Krista is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  She graduated with a bachelor's in psychology and criminal justice in 2010 from Peru State College and her Masters degree in counseling at Doane University in 2015. Krista's work experience over the years has included work with children, adolescents, adults, elderly adults, couples, and families.  She has served clients in a variety of settings, including integrated health care, school systems, nursing homes/assisted living facilities, outpatient, in-home, residential juvenile rehabilitation center and in-patient for older adults.

Krista has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), autism, addictions, pain management, behavioral and drug & alcohol addictions, trauma, grief and suicide intervention.  She is certified in Basic Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma and anxiety disorders. Krista has facilitated numerous group sessions, addressing challenges faced by senior adults undergoing physical and emotional changes, as well as adolescents.  She has also let support groups focusing on grief, caregiving, and trauma recovery.  Her training encompasses Aggression-Replacement Therapy; Thinking for a Change; Prime for Life; Prime Solutions for Alcohol and Drug Use; and A Time to Heal for cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Krista values life and is passionate about helping people in finding their meaning and purpose as well as achieving goals. Licensed in both mental health and addictions, she specializes in integrated health care, collaborating with Primary Care Providers to offer comprehensive care for individuals aged five and up.

“My husband and I both had to travel for work where we lived last  and were looking for a change, not only in careers but some place that we could work and not have to travel so much to do it.”

"During my last maternity leave I received mail that showed how short of counselors this area was. I applied for the position at the Counseling and Enrichment Center and my husband was able to get a job with UPS here in town, so it seemed like a good fit. O'Neill is not too big but has everything we need,” said Holeman.
