Cletus John Muff, age 93, of Clearwater passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Neligh.

Visitation was held at St. John's Catholic Church from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at St. John's Catholic Church in rural Clearwater. Father Eldon McKamy officiated. Music was provided by Tom Kimes and the church choir.

Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Mike Peter, Dan Peter, Steve Peter, Brian Thramer, John Sample, Shaun Hansen and Patrick Deane.

Cletus John Muff was born on July 2, 1917, to Clemens and Christina (Schueth) Muff in rural Clearwater and grew up in the area. Cletus was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in rural Clearwater. He attended Dist. #46 in Holt County. Cletus graduated with the class of 1935 from Clearwater High School. On June 3, 1941, he was united into marriage to Barbara Jean Babcock at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Clearwater. They celebrated their 69th anniversary. They made their home on the farm southwest of Clearwater where he was born. Cletus was the first in his neighborhood to plant hybrid seed corn, use commercial fertilizer and put in irrigation systems. Later he enjoyed gardening and lawn care.

Cletus was treasurer of Dist. 46 and served on ASC Board in O'Neill. He was active in St. John's Church as trustee, member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and men's choir.

He is survived by his wife; children, Wayne Muff and his wife Dawn of Fremont, Jane Peter and her husband Cal of O'Neill, Ruth Deane and her husband Larry of Houston, Texas, Ed Muff of Lodi, CA, Bobi Courtney and her husband John of Alliance and Margaret Hansen and husband Greg of Hemingford; 18 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary M. Cox of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Cletus is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mark, Leonard and Maurice; three sisters, Germaine, Lorraine and Margaret; and three nephews.
