New Police Station - The Golden Age Center will become the new O'Neill Police Station during the new budget year.

The City of O'Neill has set it's budget for the 2024 year.

The operating budget for this coming year starting Oct. 1 is $12,757,887, which is down six percent from the previous year which was set at $13,640,331.58.

The property tax request is up three percent from $893,72981 to $9210,110.00 and valuation is up eight percent.

Individual departments that keep our fair city running took a 12.9 percent increase from the previous year going from $3,023,153 to $3,415,378. Due to increases from inflation and cost of living increases.

One of the bigger asks from the budget was an increase in the fire budget for some long overdue replacement of equipment including the department looking into replacing a  51 year old ladder truck that is no longer able to be recertified and needs  to be retired. The department is hoping to find a used replacement for around $250,000.

The O'Neill Police Budget is asking for $1,193,331 which is up about 17 percent due to everything from salaries to insurance and an increase in the their capital expenditures going from $31,010 to $108,010. The Police Department is also looking at the renovation of the Golden Age Center to become the new Police Station.

The park budget as well as the Water, Solid Waste and Street Departments also saw decreases in next year's budget.
