Spencer — Roger Leigh Pecena, 76, of Spencer died Friday, Nov. 18, 2022 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022 at the Spencer Community Hall in Spencer.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022 at the community hall in Spencer. Rev. Grant Graff officiated.

Burial was in the National Cemetery in Spencer.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer was in charge of the arrangements.

Roger, son of Charles and Mary Ellen (Hood) Pecena, was born Sept. 24, 1946, at Lynch. He graduated from Spencer High School in Spencer with the class of 1964. 

Roger served in the South Dakota National Guard and completed basic training in Tacoma, WA at Fort Lewis.

On June 21, 1969, Roger was united in marriage to Victoria “Vicki” Tiefenthaler at Butte. They were blessed with three children Dustan, Beverly and Kyle.

Roger was a life-long resident of Spencer and worked as a mechanic. 

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer.

Roger's passion in life was dirt track racing. He enjoyed spending time at the track with his family and friends doing what he loved.

Roger is survived by his wife Vicki; three children Dustan Pecena of Wayne, Beverly (Gailen) McGill of Spencer and Kyle (Paige) Pecena of O'Neill; and seven grandchildren Trevor (Erin) Pecena of Wilbur, Ashlyn Pecena of Lincoln, Tyler (Zoe) Pecena of Wayne, Grant McGill and Graham McGill of Spencer and Kage Pecena and Addley Pecena of O'Neill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two sisters Cheryl Vandry and Beverley in infancy, one daughter-in-law Stacey Pecena and one grandson Reid McGill.
