Ewing — Carla Rae Peters, 69, of Ewing, died Saturday, June 10, 2023 at her home in Ewing.

Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Carla was born at 9:15 am Aug. 24, 1953 in Atkinson to William "Bill" Henry and Bessie "Betty" Ardith (Mitchell) Crawford. She weighed in at 11 lbs., 4 oz and was 24 inches long. Bill said that even though she was a month early, (her mother's first C-section) she had to be put on a diet – her first of many throughout her life, according to her. Carla was welcomed by her brother Arloe Doyle and was later joined by a sister Ardith Ann. Leon Kay was stillborn and Carla always wondered why Leon got a girl middle name while she got a boy middle name.

The family moved to Chambers when Carla was very young. She stayed there until she was 16, then moved to Wood River.

She had two children Brent Anthony on May 17, 1972 and Kitra Davon on Jan. 5, 1976.

She then married Larry Dean Peters on June 27, 1992. She gained two daughters Traci and Trista.

Carla was raised and baptized Methodist and was very grateful for her upbringing. They were active in their churches, wherever they lived. Carla gave her life to Christ in 1980, but knew He had always been there. Sometimes when Larry would say “the devil has ya,” she would remind him that God made her that way.

Carla enjoyed many activities including playing cards and her Bible study. Carla wanted to mention her good friend Kathleen Jorgensen, another sister in her life. The companionship, friendship and sense of community that these clubs added, really helped keep the faith throughout her journey.

She was a dental receptionist at Drs. Potter, Croft and Brockman. She was also a receptionist and chiropractic assistant for 28 years at Drs. Sitz, Hedlund and Holtz. She enjoyed all her jobs and was grateful for all her bosses and coworkers. She was appreciative of Dr. Sitz for making her want to be a better Christian and for Mary Jo Peterson for being like a sister, even though they fought, they loved each other.

Her goal in life was to visit all U.S. states and she did before she retired. She enjoyed traveling, motorcycling, fishing, dancing, darts and sand volleyball. She completed the Nebraska CR Club Tour many times. Her and Larry remodeled the house in O'Neill and built a cabin along the Missouri River. They retired to Arkansas for seven years before returning to Ewing for the support of friends in the community.

Carla: “I feel blessed as I get to write this because my life has been overflowing. Do not mourn for me but make sure you accept Jesus into your heart, and we shall see you again. I have walked the path that the Lord has given me.”

She was blessed with a great husband, loving children, many friends (including all her coffee pals in Ewing and a great biker friend Gretchen), a brother and a sister who have always been there when she needed them.

Carla is survived by her husband of 31 years Larry Peters of Ewing; three children Brent (Deb) Sawyer of O'Neill, Kitra (Jeremy) Terry of Davenport, Iowa and Trista (fiancé, Rick Stava) of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two siblings Arloe (Mary) Crawford of Syracuse and Ardith (Joe) Howard of Gardner, KS; and nieces and nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one stillborn brother Leon Kay; one daughter Traci Snyder in 2013; and three grandchildren Brayden Terry in 2004, Devin Terry in 2013 and Kimberly Snyder in 2017.
