Two weeks ago the St. Mary's Cardinal girls played a couple of matches and managed to break even. The first game of the week was played Tuesday, Oct. 15 when the Cards hosted the Osmond Tigers. Set one was a landslide victory for the Cardinals, dominating 25-9. The Tigers began improving their play, but the Cards' defense still allowed no more then 15 points to the Tigers' name. By the end, the Tigers were creeping close, but the Cards still overpowered them 25-18. A couple of days passed and on Thursday, Oct. 17 the Cardinals again invited someone to their turf, this time Grand Island Central Catholic. Both teams came out strong, with the Cards putting up 18 points before the set ended. Set two was a nail-biter, with the Cards giving it their all to score 23 points. With the game half over, and the Cardinals still with zero wins, things weren't looking too strong. They clearly weren't undetermined, however. The Cards went above and beyond and managed to take down the Crusaders in a close 25-23 bout. They were now back in the game and had a real chance at bringing it back. Set four was a back-and-forth struggle between the teams. Despite a quick scare for the Crusaders, they would keep up the pace from the start and maintain their victory.
