The St. Mary's Cardinals season came full circle last Thursday losing to the Elgin Public/Pope John football team in the first round of the playoffs 30-26. The Cardinals started their season with a 28-7 win over the Wolfpack and revenge was on their minds. The Cards scored first when the Cards drove down and Aidan Hedstrom ran in a five yard touchdown. The second quarter killed the Cards when the Wolfpack put up 22 points. The Cards put six more on the board before the half when Hedstrom hit Isaac Everitt on a one yard touchdown to trail the Wolfpack by 10 at the half. The Wolfpack scored only once more when the Wolfpack ran in a four yard touchdown. The Cardinals gave it their best and tried to play catch up when Hedstrom hit Isaac Everitt on a 30 yard touchdown to put the Cards with in 10 points. The Cards with less than four minutes got the ball and Hedstrom connected with Isaac Everitt for a 30 yard touchdown and then hit Tate Thompson for the two point conversion to bring the Cards within four. The Cards had the Wolfpack reeling with less than two minutes on the clock and despite a fumble and interception the Cards couldn't put another drive together. The clock ran out and so did the Cards chance at advancing in the playoffs. The Cards ran 48 plays for 11 first downs and had five penalties for 20 yards. The Wolfpack had 11 first downs and eight penalties for 50 yards. Gabe Pribil led the Cardinals rushing with five carries for 44 yards, Tate Thompson six carries for 31 yards and Hedstrom 13 carries for 15 yards and one touchdown. Isaac Everitt led the Cardinal receivers with five catches for 71 yards and three touchdowns, Gabe Pribil three catches for 28 yards, Dalton Alder one catch for 20 yards, Thompson one catch for eight yards and Hedstrom one catch for five yards. Wyatt Scofield and Hedstrom led the defense with 11 tackles each, Thompson 10 tackles, Isaac Everitt and Adam Everitt eight tackles each, Charles Barlow and Andrew Koehlmoos six tackles each, Gabe Pribil five tackles and Alder three tackles. The Cards end their season 7-2 with losses to Bloomfield and Elgin.
