The St. Mary's Cardinals took the top spot in the NVC Conference with a clean 3-0 sweep. Last week, they faced two schools in regular matches and kept up the pace from the Conference. In the Cardinal's first match on Tuesday, Feb. 11, they were paired with Boyd County. The Cards got off to a ferocious start, putting up 33 points in the first half while restricting the Spartans to just 18. In the third quarter, the Cards slacked a bit and fell 13-12, but they came back with a thunderous boom in the fourth. They put a further 18 points on the scoreboard to take the game to a final score of 63-35. Ben Barlow crushed the game with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Gage Hedstrom wasn't far behind with 18 points, Logan Brabec had nine, Risken Dawson had five points and nine rebounds, James Eby finished with five points, Drake Berg had three points and Eli Banks had two. The two teams were both sinking the ball in the opening, but the Huskies managed to pull ahead 18-17. In quarter two, the Cardinals flipped the match around with a 15-11 win. In post-halftime play, the Cards began to dominate the match. The boys brought the Huskies down 19-15 in the third and 18-6 in the finale to cement their victory. Hedstrom was the MVP of the night with 23 points. Barlow was close with 19 points, Brabec had 13 points and two steals, Eby had eight points and one steal, Berg ended with three points, Dawson had two and Banks had one point to end off the week's play.
