Beverly J. Grimes

Kearney — Beverly Jean Grimes, 81, of Kearney, formerly of Chambers, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2023 at Arbor Care Center in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023 at the Chambers Community Church in Chambers.

A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023 at the church in Chambers. Pastor Mike Durre officiated.

Burial was in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements.

Beverly was born on Dec. 5, 1941 in Kearney to Walter and Dorothy (Kersting) Cash. She grew up in Kearney and attended Kearney High School.  

She married Bruce Grimes on July 7, 1965 in Kearney. They made their home in Chambers.

Along with being a mother and housewife, Beverly ran the Chambers Shopper for over 20 years and would occasionally drive the school bus for Chambers High School.  

After the town of Chambers celebrated its centennial celebration on July 4, 1984, Bruce and Bev decided to keep the annual celebration going. With the help of a few loyal volunteers, they were able to keep the celebration going every year until the Chamber of Commerce was formed and eventually took it over. 

Beverly loved spending time with her family and attending their activities at Chambers High School. She was a loyal fan and would attend sporting events long after her children had graduated. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning and making jelly. 

After Bruce passed away in 2006, Beverly continued to live in Chambers until 2019 when she moved to Kearney with her special friend Paul Gilroy. She lived there until recently when her health declined and she moved to O'Neill. 

Beverly is survived by her three children Robert (Mardy) Ollendick of O'Neill, Julie (Tom) Bauers of Weeping Water and Darrin (Laura) Grimes of Chambers; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five siblings Robert (Julie) Cash of Calimesa, CA, Steve, Gary and Rick Clevenger of Kearney and Connie Land of Osmond; and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bruce Grimes in 2006, her son, Larry Ollendick, her sister LeeEtta Winslow, her brothers Ken and Fred Cash and a nephew David Winslow.
