Alice moved with her family a few times before they settled northeast of O'Neill where she graduated high school from O'Neill Public School. Alice continued her education by attending summer teacher education course and the following fall started her teaching career. Alice eventually obtained her teaching certificate by taking summer and night college courses while raising a growing family. Alice was married to Gerald Fahrenholz on June 4, 1960, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. As their family grew to include seven children, Alice continued to teach in many country schools in and around the counties of Holt and Rock. She touched many lives during her 45+ years of teaching and receiving her college diploma was a major accomplishment in her life. Alice was an avid reader, self-taught seamstress and along with her family raised a big garden but always enjoyed her flowers the most. She was known for her hard work ethic, positive attitude and deep faith which helped guide her through the trials and joys of life. Alice was raised as a Christian in the Lutheran Church and joined the Catholic Church at the time of her marriage. Though Alice loved teaching, family was always most important in her life, the times she got to spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing with them, reading or just snuggling was her favorite pastime. Alice is survived by one daughter-in-law Jacque Fahrenholz of Chambers; six children Marsha (Rusty) Osburn of Cody, Cheryl (Mike) Rentschler of Atkinson, Carl (Theresa) Fahrenholz of Stuart, Linda Fahrenholz of Longmont, CO, Jerry (Paulette) Fahrenholz of Stuart and Nancy (Mike) Kratz of Atkinson; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four siblings Jim (Norma) Frerichs of Atkinson, Helen (Wayne) Brewster of Chambers, Tom (Judy) Frerichs and Paul (Teri) Frerichs, all of North Platte. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, one son Randall, one brother Fred and her parents.
