Voice Finalist Bryan Olesen To Perform In Atkinson

8 hrs ago (0)

The Holt County TeamMates Chapter is hosting a free concert on Saturday, October 18th at the Atkinson Community Center. Bryan Olesen and his band VOTA will perform beginning at 8:00 pm.  A performance by local musician Emma Sue will follow.

Bryan, a former Newsboys guitarist and Top 3 Finalist on Season 25 of NBC's The Voice, will also be doing a question and answer session about his Voice experience and the importance of having John Legend as his mentor.

VOTA is a 2-piece pop/rock band from The Midwest whose mission is to use music to connect those who can help with those who need help. Their last 4 studio albums have done just that, sponsoring hundreds of children out of poverty and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars fighting sex trafficking, and they're not finished yet. VOTA is committed now more than ever to pursuing their musical dreams.

This free concert is a mentor recruitment event, so anyone attending will have the opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a TeamMates mentor and the chance to apply.  The Holt County TeamMates Chapter has been in existence since 2006, celebrating its 20th anniversary next year! Current board members include Jay Addison, Wendy Devall, Leann Gotschall, Amy Halsey, Mindee Hilker, Laurie Lieswald, Travis Ludwig, Connor Osborne, and Shirley Rossman. Program coordinator is Amy Shane and building coordinators include Luke Andrew, Kristina Hobbs, Michele Kunz, Alex Miller, and Rex Stolcpart.

TeamMates adult mentors are matched with a young person in grades 3 – 12, and then spends 30-45 minutes a week developing a friendship.  The matches meet at the school building throughout the school year, and spend time talking, playing games, shooting hoops, crafting, or really doing anything that interests the pair.  The program encourages each match to meet 24 times a year, which allows flexibility to miss a week here and there as mentors lives can get busy! The Chapter also offers optional group activities where all matches come together. Some of those activities have included bowling parties, pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, hockey games, Broadway musicals, and the Cornhusker Spring Game.  Matches are encouraged to continue through graduation. Mentees are eligible to apply for scholarships through the National TeamMates Office to help fund their post-secondary education. This past year Charlene Bock and Savannah Morrow both received a National Office scholarship. They have also continued to participate in Teammates through TeamMates + where they stay connected to a mentor through their college careers.

Any students in grades 3-12 can benefit from having another caring adult in their life, so we encourage all interested students to apply. Our chapter is always in need of adults (especially men) to mentor these students.
