The SMH Cardinals competed in another Triangular last Tuesday, Sept. 23 against Boyd County and North Central. Just like the last, the Cards clawed their way to the top. Their first competitor was Boyd County whom they bested twice last season. This time was no different, with the Cards taking down their opponent in back-to-back 25-19 sets. Gracie Williamson led the team with eight kills, three ace serves and 11 digs; Tatum Ickes had seven kills, three blocks and five digs; Anna Otte had four kills, four blocks and three digs; Delaney Drueke had one kill, one ace serve, nine digs and two set assists; Adyson Peterson had one kill, one block, nine digs and two set assists; and Bethany Leisy had two ace serves and four digs. North Central entered the fray shortly after and the Cardinals served them 2-0; 25-18 & 25-20. The Knights put up a good battle, but the Cards were always one step ahead. Williamson killed it with 14 kills, one ace serve and two digs; Ickes had nine kills, one ace serve and four digs; Peterson had two kills, one ace serve, seven digs and 22 set assists; Anna Otte had two kills; Drueke had one kill, one ace serve, one dig and one set assist; Leisy had one ace serve, nine digs and one set assist; Asche had one ace serve and one dig; After a short break, the Cards invited Randolph onto their turf, and the girls kept the pace going. The Cardinals made a statement in the opener, putting leaving their competitor in the dust 25-8. The momentum continued, with Randolph creeping closer with each set, but the home team was still the easy victor. They took it 3-0; 25-8, 25-11 & 25-13. Williamson put up 12 kills, one ace serve and five digs; Ickes was close behind with 10 kills, two ace serves and seven digs; Otte had nine kills and one block; Drueke had seven kills, one ace serve, one block, three digs and three set assists; Asche had three kills, three ace serves and three digs; Peterson had two kills, one ace serve, eight digs and 35 set assists; Leisy had one ace serve and six digs; and Cherish Williamson had one ace serve.
