Bennet — David John Nachtman, 67, of Bennet, formerly of Atkinson, died Sunday, June 15, 2025, in the loving hands of wife Donni J. Nachtman (Obermire) at their home after fighting stage 4 rectal cancer since late 2024. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of the arrangements. David was born July 2nd, 1957, in Omaha, and was lovingly adopted by Edwin and Donna Nachtman on Nov. 4th, 1957. He graduated from Chambers high school in 1975. In which he had enjoyed running cross country and was a long-time high school record holder in the one mile. He had also carried an associates in construction from NECC in Norfolk, from 1977. David met Donni J. Obermire April 9th, 1982, and then married Feb. 19th, 1984. Donni traveled through life and marriage for 43 years, hand and hand until David's death. David loved to say he was a "Jack of all trades, but a master of none." But to us he was everything. He held numerous farming, ranching and construction positions over his lifetime. He had dedicated 26 years to Olson Industries of Atkinson, welding and farming. His last place of employment was Morrison Farms of Brunswick. David's passions was his family, his tractors and how he could help someone in need. He enjoyed annoying Donni with random tractor parts strewn around their household. "They are all rebuildable if you give it a second," is what she'd hear. Or they were going on one of the many tractors (Mainly John Deere As and Bs) his children suddenly possessed so they could use it in the tractor pulls. Most people who knew him, could say he never dressed for the pope and rarely went far without a cigarette hanging from his onery lips. After the kids moved out and made their own lives, Dave and Donni restarted their lives by dating each other again. The love they shared together at the end was beautiful. David is survived by his wife ,Donni Nachtman; their three children Jessica D. Nachtman (Jared Timmerman) of DeWitt, Jonathan D. Nachtman (Katie Petrowsky) of Norfolk and Jakki D. Drohman (Derrick Drohman) of Oak; along with his four grandchildren who adored their Pop Pop, Ryker Drohman, Rixten Drohman, Hayden Clark and Ryley Drohman; his mother Donna Nachtman; his sister Cathy (Steve) Minchow; his brother Gary Nachtman; and one aunt Minerva Blaire. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Nachtman; three uncles George (Lucy) Nachtman, Duane (Bernice) Blair and Alvin Blair; and one aunt Genevieve Nachtman.
