Norfolk — Cody M. Burgett, 24, of Norfolk, formerly of Battle Creek, died Monday, March 31, 2025 at his home in Norfolk.

Visitation was held Monday, April 7, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Church in Norfolk. Fr. Pat McLaughlin officiated.

Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Battle Creek.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk was in charge of the arrangements.

Cody was born on Aug. 19, 2000, in Norfolk, to Michael “Mike” and Colleen (Mueller) Burgett. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Cody attended grade school at Battle Creek Elementary and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 2019. Cody was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a kid and enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and YMCA football. Throughout high school, Cody was involved in band, play production and track. He enjoyed cross country and that is where he met the love of his life Hannah. He was even fast enough to catch her.

He felt God's love through JC Camp in high school and Seek in college. He attended Wayne State College, graduating in December 2023, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and special education. He was active in many activities during college, especially with the Newman Center in Wayne, where he met some of his closest friends.

Cody met Hannah Hubers in 2018, and they had many cherished memories together. From high school prom to buying their first home, they did it all together. They shared so much love together and were married on June 1, 2024, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, surrounded by all their closest family and friends. Fun was had by all. They made their home in Norfolk after their wedding alongside their energetic and happy puppy Mack.

He worked at Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School in Norfolk as a fifth grade teacher and also part-time at Integrated Life Choices in Norfolk. He loved all people he encountered and shared so much joy with all of his individuals and students. He discovered his love for teaching early in his life from both of his Aunt Kathy's.

Cody enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and grandfather, camping, playing and watching all sports, cheering on the Cornhuskers (even when they lost), listening to Rock music, but most of all, spending time with all of his loving family and friends.

Cody is survived by his wife Hannah (Hubers) Burgett of Norfolk, parents Mike and Colleen (Mueller) Burgett of Battle Creek, father-in-law and mother-in-law Vernon and Shelley (Cushman) Hubers of Wausa, sister-in-law Rachael Hubers (fiancé Sam Moser) of Norfolk, paternal grandparents Wayne and Eileen (Pribil) Burgett of Amelia, maternal grandmother Angela (Schieffer) Mueller of Crofton and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Clarence Mueller.
