Cardinals Win Two And Fall To Summerland In Televised Game

The St. Mary's Cardinal boys had a solid week of play recently. They hosted three schools and overcame two of them. The Cards downed Bloomfield handily in a 77-41 match on Thursday the hosted Summerland in a televised game as both teams are rated well for the end of January. The Cards fell in a close match losing 71-62. To close the week the Cards hosted the CWC Renegades and won 66-36.

First up was Bloomfield last Tuesday. The Cards scored big in the first half, leading by a mammoth 34 points going into third quarter. They lost their footing and let the Bees slip by their defenses in the third. The Cards returned the spotlight to them in the end to take the win.

Ben Barlow scored big with 19 points, three rebounds and one steal; Gage Hedstrom had 15 points, six rebounds and one steal; Xzavier Parks 12 points and three rebounds; James Eby 10 points, two rebounds and six steals; Logan Brabec eight points, four rebounds and three steals; Eli Banks five points and two rebounds; Max Berg four points, eight rebounds and two steals; Risken Dawson two points and three rebounds and Drake Berg two points and one rebound.

Soon after, on Thursday, the boys found themselves up against a perfect 11-0 Summerland team. From the beginning, the Bobcats took the lead and never fell behind. By halftime, the scoreboard read 44-33. The Cards gave it their all and, in the third, broke even. The boys put on the pressure and managed to snipe the final quarter 15-13. It was a great effort from the Cardinals, but the Bobcats reigned supreme.

Hedstrom had a massive game with 23 points, four rebounds and one steal; Brabec had 17 points, three rebounds and two steals; Barlow 13 points, four rebounds and one steal; Eby nine points, six rebounds and one steal; Dawson and Banks both three rebounds and M. Berg one rebound.

The Cardinals ended off the week hosting a conference game against Chambers/Wheeler Central.

It was utter domination from the start, with the Cards pulling ahead 18-2 and 20-13 in the first half. The boys kept the pressure going and took a quick win to finish the week's play strong.

Brabec led with 16 points, six rebounds and one steal; Hedstrom had 12 points and five rebounds; Eby nine points and three rebounds; Barlow seven points and three rebounds; Banks six points, six rebounds and one steal; Dawson six points, four rebounds and one steal; M. Berg five points and five rebounds; D. Berg five points, two rebounds and one steal and Parks two rebounds and one steal.
