The O'Neill Eagle boys faced off against two opponents last week and managed to walk away with two close wins.

Friday, Jan. 10, they visited Albion to take down the Boone Central Cardinals.

In the opener, the Eagles struggled and took an early five-point loss. They then focused all their energy on the match and quickly turned it in their favor.

Quarters two and three were game-changers for the Eagles, and with a tie in the finale, the Eagles' quick ability to adapt saved the game.

Turner Heiss was the night's MVP with 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals; Braxen Eichelberger close behind with 11 points, three rebounds and one steal; Trevor Alder had eight points, three rebounds and two steals; Caleb Laursen six points and three rebounds; Porter Mathews four points, 14 rebounds and one steal; Jackson Larsen three points and one rebound; Ryder Kelly three points; Brady Eichelberger one point and five rebounds and Westen Kohl one point and one rebound.

One day later, on Saturday, the Eagles hosted Ponca and barely managed to take the victory.

The game began with utter domination from the Eagles, taking the first half by 24-13.

In quarter three, Ponca ramped up their play and made a solid effort to steal the match. Another tied final quarter gave the Eagles the win, with the Indians just four points shy.

Alder put up some solid numbers with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals; Braxen Eichelberger just behind with 11 points and two rebounds; Mathews had nine points and seven rebounds; Heiss seven points, four rebounds and two steals; Brady Eichelberger five points, four rebounds and one steal; Kohl two points and three rebounds; Laursen two rebounds and one steal and Larsen one steal.

These were a formidable couple of opponents, but the Eagles managed to overcome them to improve their season record to 6-5.
