Lady Eagles Come Back Strong After Break

Last week was a great time for basketball at O'Neill High. After some downtime, the girls were finally back, and clearly, the break hadn't affected their play.

Friday, Jan. 10, they traveled to face off against Boone Central.

The opening showed the Eagles may have gotten rusty over the break,  but they soon pulled themselves together and played some solid basketball. Quarter two saw the Eagles begin to make a comeback, taking it 13-7. 

Still down at halftime, the Eagles had a long way to go to the top. They played hard and went on the offensive, though, and managed to clutch the victory by five points.

Hannah Hilker killed it with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals; Mariah Kallhoff had eight points, five rebounds and two steals; Bergyn Classen had eight points, four rebounds and one steal; Mady Heiss eight points and three rebounds; Rylee Selby seven points, five rebounds and one steal; Taylor Young seven points and five rebounds and Ashley Sidak two points.

The Eagles were right back at it the next day when they hosted the Ponca Indians and claimed another victory.

Quarter one was a great start for the girls, as they took down their visitors 13-5. Shortly after, the Indians took a small win over the Eagles, but it was nothing to fret over.

The third quarter was panic time when the Indians took a 17-10 win to bring the game to an even tie. The Eagles managed to pull through and cleared the finale 15-6 to send Ponca home 48-39.

Hilker again crushed it with 19 points and four steals; T. Young had seven points and three rebounds; Kallhoff seven points and three steals; Heiss four points, one rebound and three steals; Olivia Young four points; Sidak two points and five rebounds; Selby two points, three rebounds and one steal; Classen two points and two rebounds and Serena Chavez one point.

Even after some time away from the court, the Lady Eagles still managed to score some great games and bring their record this year to 7-5.
