The O'Neill Lady Eagles fared well last week, winning over Summerland and Wayne despite a loss to Pierce. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Lady Eagles fell to Pierce 43-30. The Eagle offense got off to a slow start, scoring only 10 points before trailing 27-17 at the half. The Lady Eagles tried to keep pace but fell short by 13 at the buzzer. Hannah Hilker took top honors on the boards leading with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals; Olivia Young had eight points; Taylor Young six points, six rebounds and one steal; Rylee Selby four points, two rebounds and one steal; and Serena Chavez two points. The Eagles outscored their opponents in all stanzas except the third, which ended in a tie. O'Neill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season. Hilker dominated the floor with 20 points, two rebounds and four steals; Young had 12 points, seven rebounds and one steal; Selby six points and two rebounds; Maraiah Kallhoff six points, three rebounds and two steals; Mady Heiss five points, four rebounds and five steals; Chavez five points and two rebounds; Bergyn Classen four points, three rebounds and one steal; and Sidak three points and one rebound. The Blue Devils opened up strong against the Eagles, opening up a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Wayne had trouble in the second quarter, only putting two on the boards, while the Eagles advanced their agenda, adding nine points for a 20-19 lead at the half. The Lady Eagles kept the pressure on Wayne and edged them out by eight at the buzzer. Hilker led with 17 points, two rebounds and four steals; Classen 10 points, three rebounds and one steal; Selby seven points, two rebounds and one steal; Kallhoff six points, one rebound and two steals; Young four points, two rebounds and one steal; and Heiss four points, five rebounds and one steal.
