Chambers — Jean Margaret Hoffman, 96, of Chambers, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024 at West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson.

Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in rural Ewing. Kasey Summerer and Linda Lambert officiated.

Burial was in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Jean was born on May 11, 1928 near Chambers, to Elmer and Mildred (Reisinger) Wandersee. She attended Chambers Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1945. Jean's freshman year of high school she played the piano and organ for the Chambers Methodist Church playing for over 75 years and going on to teaching piano lessons to many students through the years.  

After high school, Jean attended Morningside College for one year in the music program and then attended Wayne State College for one semester to receive her teaching certificate. Jean taught one year at a country school and then taught Jr. High at Chambers Public School for two years.

  She married her high school sweetheart Bernard Hoffman on March 25, 1948 at the Keller Presbyterian Church near Chambers after Bernard had been discharged from the U.S. Navy. The couple made their home in Chambers. To this union six children were born.  

Jean worked various jobs around Chambers mainly driving school bus for over 20 years. They retired from the farm in 1994 and moved into town.

  Jean was a member of the Chambers Methodist Church, a member of the Methodist Women group and also a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church.

  She was a very competitive card player, she enjoyed bowling, watching and attending many Chambers School activities including musical programs and the sports teams. She loved watching baseball, especially the Royals. Jean and Bernard enjoyed traveling, especially camping; once making a trip all the way to Anchorage, AK.

  Jean is survived by her husband of 76 years Bernard Hoffman of Chambers; three children Bruce (Rhonda) Hoffman of rural Ewing and Kevin (Lisa) and Brian (Becky), all of Chambers; 10 grandchildren Kerrie (Bruce) Hodges, Preston (Jenna) Hoffman, Jake (Natasha) Hoffman, Dustin Hoffman, Chantelle (Wally) Nelsen, Jase Hoffman, Brittni (Matt) Henrich, Valarie Hoffman, Ed (Sarah) Hoffman and Alex (Kristin) Hoffman; 24 great-grandchildren; and one step-brother Fred (Mary Ann) Fangman of Raeville.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Fred Fangman and three children Donis Hoffman and still born twin boys.
