CARDINAL GAGE HEDSTROM (24) slams into Randolph's Dayton Winklebauer mid-jump. The Cardinals took the night's game 72-35 to start their season.

The Cardinal boys started their basketball play shortly after the girls, hosting Randolph Dec. 5 at 7:45 p.m.

It was a ruthless game, with the Cardinals staying on their toes the whole match. Randolph would take the offensive every so-often, but the Cards didn't allow for much. In the end, St. Mary's put up the pressure and took the win 72-35.

Gage Hedstrom went on the offensive with 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals; Logan Brabec had 18 points, five rebounds and three steals; James Eby 11 points, two rebounds and three steals; Drake Berg six points and three steals; Xzavier Parks five points, Max Berg four points, four rebounds and one steal; Cameron Vogt three points; Risken Dawson two points, four rebounds and two steals; Eli Banks one point and five rebounds and John Mlnarik one rebound and one steal.

Same as the girls, the boys traveled to Riverside to take on the Chargers. This was an incredible match, with the victor undecided until the very end.

It opened with the Cards taking an early three-point headstart that would be the deciding factor for the whole match. Quarter two was stalemate, meaning the Cards were still in the lead.

The third quarter would also end in a draw–leaving everything up to the finale. It was an epic ending to conclude the boy's second match. The Chargers went on the offensive and managed to overcome the Cards. However, it was by just one point and the Cards advantage in the beginning saved them and allowed them to walk away with the win.

Hedstrom outdid the last match with 23 points, eight rebounds and two steals; Brabec had 16 points, two rebounds and one steal; Berg seven points and 10 rebounds; Eby six points, two rebounds and one steal; Dawson two points and nine rebounds; Banks three rebounds and one steal and D. Berg one rebound.
