by Assistant Coach Erin Boyle The O'Neill Eagles softball team traveled to Pierce on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a three-game tournament. O'Neill opened the day with a 13-1 win over Ponca. Junior Dani Rowse led the way for the Eagles at the plate, recording three hits and four RBIs. Fellow junior Emerson Mlnarik also added three hits to the total. Senior Loretta Scofield and sophomore Grace Drueke each contributed two hits. Brooklynn Cahoy, Rylee Selby, Brenna Davis, and Harley Kinnison each added one hit to the Eagles' total. In the circle, Selby and Drueke each threw three innings, combining for 10 total strikeouts while only allowing three walks. In the second game of the day, the Eagles had the chance to avenge an earlier loss to a well-rounded Central City team. O'Neill totaled nine hits, two each from Davis, Scofield, and freshman Bristol Scott. Mlnarik, Kinnison, and Cahoy each recorded a hit as well. Selby pitched a complete game, holding the Bison to only two hits, striking out nine, and walking four. Game two ended in a 12-1 win for the Eagles. After winning the two pool-play games, the Eagles went on to face the Pierce Bluejays for the third time this season in the championship game of their home tournament. The Eagles held off Pierce's late scoring run to win 11-8. Cahoy led the way for O'Neill with four hits and three runs batted in. Scofield added three more RBIs. Davis, Rowse and Selby each recorded two hits, with Kinnison adding one as well. Selby finished the day with a win in the circle, recording eight strikeouts, while walking five. As a team, the Eagles recorded 35 hits on the day, including 24 singles, 7 doubles, and 4 triples to total 36 runs scored. The Eagles had a team batting average of .438 on the day, with an on-base percentage of .521. O'Neill climbs to 11-9 on the season leading into the last few weeks of play.
