Last week concluded the 2024 season for the O'Neill Eagle boys with their loss that Battle Creek handed them Tuesday, Feb. 20. It was a hard fought game from the teams, but only one could come out with the win. The Eagles started off great, taking the opening quarter 18-14. From there, the Eagles continued to pile up points, taking the second 11-9 to put them six points in the lead. At the half point, the Braves started to bite back, taking a massive 22-13 quarter to steal the first place position. In the end, the Eagles took a solid 9-8 final quarter to try to rescue the game, but the Braves had outplayed them too hard. The final scoreboard read 53-51, showing how well balanced the match was. Battle Creek continued play and faced Auburn Tuesday, Feb. 27. Turner Heiss scored the highest with 14 points, shooting three three-pointers and nine two-pointers. He also had four rebounds and one steal; Colton Osborne was just behind with 12 points, 10 rebounds and one steal; Drew Morrow was also close with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals; Trevor Alder had seven points, two rebounds and one steal; Brady Eichelberger six points, four rebounds and one steal; Porter Mathews one rebound; and Ryder Pokorny had one steal. OHS 18 11 13 9 51 BCHS 14 9 22 8 53 The Eagles ended their season 12-11, with a 52% win rate. Their longest win-streak was five games. Their highest score was 81 points against Creighton on Feb. 5.
