St. Mary's MYA HEDSTROM (11) goes up for a shot to the hoop while Stuart's Addison Steinhauser(24) attempts to block the shot. The Cards won the game 71-26.

Last week's competition was no problem for the St. Mary's Lady Cardinals.

In their first match against Bloomfield, played on Monday, Jan. 22, The Cardinals won 65-40.

Quarter one set the stage for the game, with the Cardinals winning it 21-6. An additional four points in quarter two split the team's scores further.

By the end of the third, the Cards were up by 36 points, but the Bees didn't quit. They stole the last quarter, 20-9, but they were still far from victory. The Cards took it 65-40.

Mya Hedstrom scored highest with 17 points, shooting six of nine two-pointers for 67 percent. Hedstrom also had 11 rebounds and three steals; Alissa Brabec just behind with 16 points and three steals; Lorissa Reiman had 10 points, 17 rebounds and two steals; Pyper Ickes had nine points, four rebounds and one steal; Annabelle Barlow eight points, three rebounds and two steals; Gracie Williamson five points, six rebounds and three steals; Adyson Peterson one rebound and one steal; and Lily Bauer one rebound.

Wasting no time, the next day, the Cardinals hosted Creighton and stomped them 76-28.

The opener gave the Cards a huge lead, winning 23-7. Quarter two kept the momentum up with another 23 points on the board.

The Cardinals were clearly having no trouble, putting up an additional 25 points to their already overwhelming score. In the end, things winded down, ending with a low-score 5-4 quarter win for the Cards to take the game 76-28.

Brabec scored a staggering 28 points, shooting five of 12 three-pointers for 42 percent and five of eight two-pointers for 63 percent. Brabec also had one rebound and four steals; Hedstrom had 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals; Williamson 10 points and eight points; Reiman nine points, 16 rebounds and four steals; Adyson Peterson eight points, two rebounds and one steal; Ickes two points, four rebounds and one steal; Barlow two points, three rebounds and three steals; and Samantha Asche two rebounds.

The Cardinals were on a roll at this point, and they had no intentions of slowing down when they faced their last competitor. They hosted Stuart on Thursday, Jan. 25, and dominated by a score of 71-26.

It started fairly even, with the Cards having the slight advantage of 19 points to Stuart's 14. Quarter two began the downfall of the Broncos, falling a significant 13-4.

At the end of the third, it was apparent the Cardinals had it in the bag. The board read 55-23, and the final quarter did nothing to help the Broncos. A 16-point boost to the Cardinal's score gave them the obvious win in this match.

Brabec takes the high score again with 27 points, shooting seven of 14 three-pointers for 50 percent and three of five two-pointers for 60 percent; Brabec also had two steals; Hedstrom had 17 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals; Reiman 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals; Williamson six points, six rebounds and two steals; Barlow six points, one rebound and six steals; Peterson five points, two rebounds and one steal; Ickes three rebounds; and Bauer one rebound.
