Avera St. Anthony's Hospital is excited to share that Josslyn Pelster was the first baby born in 2024. She was delivered at 12:49 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, to Caleb and Tessa Pelster of Clearwater. Josslyn weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long. She joins her sister Layna, who is 2 ½ years old. "We are very thankful to have such high quality and personalized care in our rural community," the parents stated. The top names among the 124 babies (67 girls and 57 boys) born at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in 2023 were Asher, Grayson, Riggin and Leo (two instances each) for boys and Hadley and Ophelia (two instances each) for girls. For the Avera Health system overall, the top three boys' names were Hudson (25 instances), Henry (23 instances) and Owen (19 instances). The top girls' names were Evelyn (17 instances), Lainey (17 instances) and Ellie (14 instances).
