Avera St. Anthony's Hospital is proud to share that Lenone Koenig, BSW, is a 2023 Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) “Caring Kind” award winner. Koenig was among 80 Nebraska hospital employees who were recently honored by the NHA with a prestigious Caring Kind award. For 44 years, The Caring Kind award has recognized Nebraska's most caring and compassionate health care heroes. This award honors outstanding health care employees who have demonstrated compassion for patients, cooperation with co-workers and dedication to excellence in their job responsibilities. Koenig has been a social worker at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital for the past 18 years. “Her focus every day is to help and serve others,” Kayleen Lee, President and CEO of Avera St. Anthony's Hospital, stated in the nomination form for Koenig. “She is kind, caring and compassionate to everyone she interacts with, especially the patients and families she assists. Lenone goes above and beyond to make sure that each patient has a safe discharge plan, which can be a time-consuming task. Anyone who works with her could tell numerous stories about her extra acts of kindness, many of which extend beyond the walls of the hospital.” Koenig also helps with community education efforts and is willing to step up to help co-workers manage through busy, challenging situations. “Lenone is definitely a true team player, and we are very blessed to work with her at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital,” Lee added. “This award demonstrates the tremendous amount of kindness, caring, dedication and commitment these individuals make to their hospitals,” commented Jeremy Nordquist, President, NHA. “The Caring Kind award is a celebration of our Nebraska health care heroes and the extraordinary work they do each and every day to deliver quality patient care in all of our Nebraska hospitals.” Hospitals across the state chose one Caring Kind award recipient from their respective facilities. Award winners were recognized at a special luncheon as part of the NHA Annual Convention in La Vista, Neb. More than 2,800 caring, skilled and dedicated health care professionals have received this award since its inception in 1979.
