The O'Neill Eagles volleyball team seem to have bitten off more than they can chew last week when they took up a five-match challenge. In their first match-up last Tuesday, the Eagles played consistently and gave Summerland a good game. There were a lot of twists and turns, and the winner would only be really known at the end. The Eagles did come out the victor in a 3-2 close game. Autumn Hilker was MVP with 14 kills, three ace serves and 23 digs; Ashley Sidak 14 kills and one ace serve; Aubrey Jackson 12 kills, two ace serves, four blocks, 24 digs and one set assist; Bergyn Classen seven kills and three digs; Olivia Young four kills, three ace serves and 17 digs; Hannah Hilker two kills, two ace serves 10 digs and 49 set assists; Haley Schluns one ace serve and seven digs; and Keeley Chavez 10 digs. OHS 21 17 25 25 15 3 SHS 25 25 18 22 8 2 Two days later on Thursday, the Eagles would strike again, this time traveling to Pierce to face the Bluejays. This was a tough match for the Eagles, not being able to keep up in the first two sets. They were able to take third but fumbled in the final, leading to 3-1 loss for the Eagles. OHS 18 16 25 16 1 PHS 25 25 23 25 3 Another two day break and the girls came back to face St. Paul. This was only a two set match, with the Eagles coming close in both but falling just short. This was the Eagles second loss of the week with a score of 2-0. Hilker had the highest kills with eight, also one ace serve, three digs and two set assists; Jackson five kills, one ace serve and seven digs; Young four kills, one ace serve, one block and five digs; Classen four kills, one block and one set assist; Sidak three kills and three digs; Hilker one kill, four ace serves, five digs and 19 set assists; Schluns three digs; and Chavez one dig. OHS 28 20 0 SPHS 30 25 2 On the same day as last game, the girls took on the Winnebago Indians and totally crushed it. This was a pretty cut-and-dried match, with the Eagles blowing away the competition by over double the amount of points. Young takes the spotlight with seven kills, two ace serves, three digs and one set assist; Sidak six kills and six digs; Hilker four kills, four ace serves and six digs; Classen four kills and three digs; Jackson two kills and eight digs; Hilker one kill, one ace serve, two digs and 22 set assists; Serena Chavez one kill, one ace serve and one dig; Schluns one ace serve and one dig; K. Chavez three digs; and Taylor Dinslage one dig. OHS 25 25 2 WHS 8 15 0 Still sticking with Saturday, the Eagles were once again taught that they may yet need some more practice. Set one came close, but the Gators closed the gap in the second and cemented their win over the Eagles.
