Chalk It Up For CASA Winners

Nebraska Court Appointed Special Advocate's (CASA) third annual Chalk Art Contest Winners are: 

• Grand Prize Winners - Carl Edwards & Chelsea Werner of Columbus. 

• Second Place Winner - Corinna Rose from O'Neill.

• Third Place Winners - Aileen Wiles from Lincoln

• Best Children's Piece – Norah Wiles from Lincoln.

• Best Family Piece – Payton Utemark from Lincoln. 

• People's Choice Award – St. Mary's Art Students in O'Neill. 

“Each year we have been in awe of the number and quality of chalk art entries.” Stated Corrie Kielty, Executive Director of the Nebraska CASA Association. “CASA is a program shouldered on volunteers and generous Nebraskans. It's clear from the great participation that Nebraskans believe in helping children.”

The Chalk it Up for CASA statewide competition promotes the recruitment of CASA Volunteers. CASA volunteers serve as advocates for children who are in the court system through no fault of their own. Children who have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect. 

CASA volunteers serve as advocates in the court for these children. They spend time with the children and make recommendations regarding their best interests. Our theme this year is “Light of Hope.” 

A child with a CASA volunteer is more likely to find a safe, permanent home and have a consistent and responsible adult presence. A child with a CASA volunteer is more likely to do better in school and spend less time in foster care.

908 CASA volunteers advocated for 2,070 Nebraska children in 2022. More than 1,000 children are in the court system without a CASA volunteer to advocate for them. CASA needs more than 800 more volunteers statewide.
