St. Mary's traveled to Randolph last Friday, Sept. 1. St. Mary's after a slow start Pounded Randolph 46-20. The St. Mary's Cards started out with a couple rookie mistakes before Randolph took advantage of SMH's misfortune and snuck into the end zone to get on the board first. After SMH got their bearings they turned the tables on Randolph and got onto the scoreboard themselves. The Cards second quarter was huge as they put up 24 unanswered points to lead at the half 32-14. The Cards, a young team, took advantage of their speed with Gage Hedstrom hitting Ben Barlow for two passing touchdowns and getting the ball to Aydan Kloppenborg for two rushing touchdowns. The St. Mary's Cardinals ran 66 plays for 21 first downs and had some penalty trouble with 10 for 90 yards. The Randolph Cardinals ran 56 plays for nine first downs and had six penalties for 50 yards. Hedstrom threw 25 times with 15 completions for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Hedstrom rushed for 120 yards on 23 completions averaging 5.2 yards per run and had three touchdowns; Kloppenborg had 14 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns; and Drake Berg had one carry for a yard. Barlow led the receivers with eight catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns; Kloppenborg four catches for 39 yards and Carson Dannenbring with three catches for 29 yards. The Cards had 405 total yards with Hedstrom having 328, Barlow 140 and Kloppenborg 117. Leading the SMH defense was Berg with 11 tackles, Kloppenborg and Dannenbring seven tackles, Eli Blanks six tackles, Jace Rosenkrans five tackles, Matt Koehlmoos and Jack Gydesen four tackles, Logan Brabec and Carter Cole two tackles and Sam Barlow one tackle.
