This year will mark the 83rd year of the Atkinson Hay Days celebration held in Atkinson. Events start on Friday, August 18 and run until the 20th. Friday, August 18 will officially kick off the celebration with lunch at 10 a.m. and $2 bowling at the The Alley from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Escape Room starts at 4:00 and lasts four hours (must have a reservation). The Volleyball Jamboree at the High School gym and the Cornhole Tournament both start at 5 p.m. Moving on, the Ranch Rodeo will start at 7 p.m., followed by the Coronation and street dance at 9 p.m. - 12 a.m. at downtown main street. Mr. and/or Mrs. Hay will be announced at 10:30 and the first Treasure hunt clue will be revealed. The Ren and Red Show will have been going on since 8 p.m. and will conclude the night at 12 a.m. at SomePlace Else Bar Saturday, August 19 continues the excitement with the Fun Run, Walk and Bike Ride at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. The Escape Room returns at 8 a.m. followed by a dance performance at 10 a.m. Dilly Bars will go on sale at this time at Connie's Cut & Curl. 10:30 kicks off the Hay Day Parade with the theme “Sunshine Fun In The Summer Days” (call Betty Ziska at 720-260-1920 to enter). Also, Get some refreshments and watch duck races immediately following the parade. Vendors in the Park and Arts, Crafts and Vendors show at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bowling comes back at 11. Period Re-enactment after the parade until 3:30 p.m. Small engine & tractor display after the parade until 6 p.m. Bounce houses will open at noon, Axe Throwing at 1, Free swimming in the pool, J & J pony rides at 1 and a dunking booth from 1 to 5 p.m. The annual Hay Days Golf Tournament starts at 1 p.m. (small entry fee per person). The hamburger and hot dog stand will open from 5 to 8 p.m. Cruise night starts from 7 to 10 p.m. The Ranch Rodeo comes back at 7 p.m. The Ren and Red Show also makes it's return from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Then the Teen Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to end the day's events. Sunday, August 20 will be the final day of the celebration. Community Church Service at 8:30 a.m. and a free will donation pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. will start off the day. The escape room comes back at 8 a.m., followed by the Slow Pitch Softball Tournament at 9 a.m. Show & Shine Car, Truck, Rat Rod and Motorcycle Show begins at 10 a.m. $2 Bowling makes it's final return at 11 a.m. Vendors in the Park, Small Engine & Tractor Display and the bounce houses all start at noon. Burn out contest starts at 1:30 p.m. with sign up at 1 p.m. Free swimming returns, followed up with J & J pony rides and axe throwing at 1 p.m. Cake, pie walk and Dilly Bar sales start at 3 p.m. The barbecue is right in time for dinner at 5 p.m. The kiddie train rides from 5 to 7 p.m. will be the final event of the celebration, ending at the perfect time to get home and get the children some rest for school the next day.
