Cumberland Gap, TN — Marvin Chester Larson, 85, of Cumberland Gap, TN, formerly of rural Ewing, died Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

Visitation was held Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers. Rev. Mike Durre officiated.

Pallbearers were Derrek Deal, Matt Kley, David Kley, Nathan Larson, Greg Deal and David Hall.

A celebration of life service was previously held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Academy Christian Church in Colorado Springs.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Marvin was born Feb. 28, 1938 to Chester and Clara (Durre) Larson in Holt County.  Marvin was the oldest of eight children.

Marvin grew up in the Nebraska Sandhills and graduated from Burwell High School in 1956.  He went on to graduate from Dana College in Blair in 1969 and received his masters degree in 1982 from Wayne State College. He taught for six years in Holt and Rock Counties and 29 years at Fremont Public Schools where he also coached and won an award for Outstanding Young Educator.

On May 18, 1959 he married Sharon Harkins at the Assembly of God Church in O'Neill. Four children were born as a result of this union. They separated after 53 years.  

Marvin then moved to Colorado Springs, CO to attend Charis Bible College. There he married Kay Owen and she survives.

Marvin's favorite pastimes included ministering, hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, hiking and flying his plane. 

He was always a hard worker and started Larson Trailer Sales, Marvin's Gardens and took over his family ranch, which was later passed on to his son Marty.  

Marvin is survived by two sons Kent Larson of Wasilla, AK and Marty (Larisa) Larson of Ewing; two daughters Karla Larson and Kayla (Greg) Deal, all of Anchorage, AK; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four siblings Verna Oliver of Cumberland Gap, TN, Richard (Doris) Larson of Ocala, FL, Judy (Robert) Bowers of Wasilla, AK and Linda Snell of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Phylis Larson, Joan Amundson and Lila Siebrandt; one niece; and two nephews.
