Cardinal Gage Hedstrom drives to the bucket against Santee in sub-district action last Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Santee. After a long string of impressive wins, the St. Mary's Cardinal boys were forced to taste defeat last week when they traveled to Santee. At the beginning of last Tuesday's match, the Cardinal boys started on fire. They took an early lead of four points over the Warriors. This would be a very short lived victory for the Cards, however, since the subsequent quarter dropped them by 10 points. Now down six points, the Cards were going to need to pick up the pace of the game. This isn't exactly what happened, though. The Warriors dominated third quarter, putting up 25 while holding the Cards to 15. The Cards were able to pull themselves together in the final quarter and took it by one point, but is was already too late. The St. Mary's boys put forth a good effort, but the Warriors simply out-matched them this time, 78-63. Easily the Cardinal's top scorer was Isaac Everitt with a solid 30 points, shooting four of 11 three-pointers for 36 percent and four of nine two-pointers for 44 percent, as well as 10 rebounds; Gage Hedstrom in second with 18 points and 13 rebounds; Sam Barlow seven points and nine rebounds; Carson Dannenbring five points and four rebounds; Risken Dawson three points and five rebounds; and Joe Wiese one rebound.
