St. Mary's Boys Have Solid Week's Play

Jan 18, 2023 (0)

Cardinal Isaac Everitt goes up for a shot while running into Renegade Beau Butterfield in action on Saturday, January 14 at St. Mary's.

Last week the St. Mary's boys faced off against two opponents in the form of Bloomfield on Tuesday and Chambers/Wheeler Central on Saturday.

The first of the Cardinal's matches was close, but they weren't able to keep up long enough to claim the match. As the game kicked off, both teams were putting up good scores, but the Bloomfield Bees pushed ahead and took a slight lead of seven points by halftime.

The Cards weren't out yet, though. They sprang back and took quarter three, 11-9. Unfortunately for them, this wouldn't prove to be enough, and the Bees took the final quarter and the match 55-46.

Dalton Alder leads the Cardinals with 14 points, shooting three of seven three-pointers for 43 percent and two of four two-pointers for 50 percent, as well as four rebounds; Isaac Everitt 13 points and 14 rebounds; Gage Hedstrom 13 points and seven rebounds; Risken Dawson four points and nine rebounds; Carson Dannenbring two points and one rebound; and Sam Barlow one rebound.

Saturday's game against the Chambers/ Wheeler Central Renegades was a different story from Tuesday. The Cardinals came out with a booming start, downing the Renegades by 12 points. Quarter two was a tie, so the Cards had a pretty solid lead going into half.

The Cards also took quarter three by four points. Now down by 16 points and only one quarter left to play, things were looking bleak for the Renegades. They did manage to take the final quarter by a few points, but it was too late. The Cards took the win easy, 51-38.

Leading the Cards this time was Everitt with 20 points, shooting two of two three-pointers for 100 percent and six of 14 two-pointers for 43 percent, as well as 15 rebounds; Alder 10 points and two rebounds; Dawson eight points and seven rebounds; Dannenbring eight points and three rebounds; Barlow three points and one rebound; Joe Wiese two points and two rebounds; and Kyle Pribil one rebound.
