Ewing — Wayne Lee Brewster, 81, of rural Ewing, died Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at his home in O'Neill after a five-year battle with cancer. Visitation was held Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a prayer service. Funeral services were held Monday, June 8, 2026 at the Ewing Church of Christ in Ewing. Graveside services were held Monday, June 8, 2026 at the Valey View Cemetery in rural Ewing with military honors provided by the Chambers American Legion post 320. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Wayne was born Sept. 22, 1944 to Marion and Grace (Fleming) Brewster on the family ranch southwest of Ewing. He attended grade school at the Goose Lake School and high school at Wheeler Central where he lived in the dormitory. He graduated with the class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 at Fort Hood, Texas. He married Helen Frerichs on Feb. 8, 1966. While stationed at Fort Hood infant daughter Janet was born and passed on Dec. 2, 1966. They returned to Nebraska in 1967 and moved to the family ranch where they resided until moving into O'Neill last year. Wayne and Helen had four children. Besides ranching, Wayne worked at Foxley Feedlot for 26 years. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and for four years he took chemo treatments twice a month under the great care of Dr. Fahed and staff at the Carson Cancer Center. Wayne was a kind and gentle man, known for his strong Christian faith and love of family. Wayne is survived by his wife of 60 years Helen Brewster of O'Neill; his four children Marilyn (Carl) Reeves of Norfolk, Carolyn (Chuck) Suing of Concord, Brian (Jill) Brewster of Bloomfield and April Brewster of Modale, Iowa; five grandchildren Harlee Pufahl, Jackson (Calissa) Reeves, Kya (Fran) Mosqueda, Jay Brewster and Sky Adams; six great-grandchildren Rhyker, Rakota, Bella, Malakai, Javi and Adrian; and two siblings Lois Fritts of St. Joseph, MO and Larry Wabs of Page. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Grace Brewster, infant daughter Janet Kay Brewster, two sisters Norma Brewster and Marge (Archie) Crabtree and two brothers Jim and Darrell Brewster.
