Walter H. Binder

Walter H. Binder, age 88, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Butte Healthcare Center in Butte.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial services which will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Community Bible Church in Butte with Pastor Gary Binder officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Cathy Haun and soloist, Jeff Binder.

Honorary pallbearers are John Binder, Terah Wiekamp, Denise Petrie, Stephanie Binder, Kristen Benson, Candace Alford, Jerica Binder, Robert Binder and Rebekah Binder.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Harley Binder, son of William and Elsie (Bolmer) Binder, was born Jan. 30, 1925, at Manganese, MN. He grew up in Pinewood, MN, and attended school in Manganese, Riverton, Pinewood and Bemidji, MN. He would later receive two years of X-ray training in Peoria, IL. In 1951 Walter moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he worked for the Maricopa County Health Department.

On Dec. 11, 1956, Walter was married to Audrey Hovda at Solway, MN. The couple was blessed with four children, Craig, Gary, Jeffrey and Brian. He continued to work for the Maricopa County Health Department retiring in 1987 as director of the X-ray department. Upon retirement Walter and Audrey moved to Spencer where he resided in the Boyd County area until his death. He was a member of the Butte Community Bible Church.

Walter is survived by his sons: Craig (Shellee) Binder of Prescott Valley, AZ, Gary (Beth) Binder of Spencer, Jeff Binder of Omaha and Brian Binder of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velma Gustaffson of Buckeye, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Binder; parents, William and Elsie Binder; and his sisters and brothers, Lola Binder, William Binder, Marjorie Stone and John (Rod) Binder.
