Spencer — Lavone Bentz, 93, of Spencer, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 at the Niobrara Valley Hospital in Lynch.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer.

Private funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. John Nelson officiated.

Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Spencer.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spencer or Christ Lutheran Church in Lynch.

Lavone was born on the family farm northeast of Lynch on Oct. 18, 1928, the second child of Joe Micanek Jr. and Gertrude (Elfline) Micanek. She attended country school and graduated from Lynch High School in 1945. 

After graduation, Lavone taught country school for three years and then went to work for Launce Gibson at the Nebraska State Bank in Lynch. 

After working there for five years, Lavone married William C. Bentz on Feb. 19, 1955. They had four children Gus, twins Joe and John and Joni. Spencer was home for the remainder of her life.

Lavone enjoyed gardening and cooking delicious meals for her family. Family gatherings for holidays and special occasions were always very important to her. 

Lavone belonged to the Thrifty Homemakers Club for many years and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Lavone is survived by her children  Joe (Kendra) and granddaughter Brooklyn; John (Laree) and granddaughter Evonne (Justin), sons Ethan and John and great-grandchildren Elenna, Izaak, Ezekiel and Izaria, and grandson Derek (Carmalita) and daughter Morgan and son Kane; Joni (Scott) Boettcher and daughter-in-law Nicole, granddaughter Yazmin (Jarod) and grandson Izaiah; one sister Jolene Miller; one brother Joe R. (Judy) Micanek; three sisters-in-law Dolores Micanek, Shirley Soukup and Aimee Bentz; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; and we can't forget her faithful companions Max, Buddy and Spot, who loved her endlessly.

She was preceded in death by her husband William; one son Gus; one daughter-in-law Lori; one brother Dwight Micanek; two brothers-in-law Elton Miller and Robert Bentz; and three sisters-in-law Maryon, Betty, Katheryne and their husbands.
