The Stuart Lady Broncos went into the Niobrara Valley Conference Tournament last Monday with the #2 seed tournament which allowed them to host the first round game; Stuart played Niobrara-Verdigre Monday night and came out on top, sweeping them in three. The girls started off with a lot of unforced errors in the first set and were down 23-24, but came back strong at the end with strong serving and a kill at the net which gave them the win, 26-24. The next two sets the girls cut down their errors and passed well to take the win. In the end, the score was 3-0; 26-24, 25-11 and 25-16. Lacey Paxton led the Broncos with an impressive 20 kills, one block and 10 digs; Sydney Estill 15 kills, one ace serve, eight digs and 15 set assists; Reagan Stracke five kills, two ace serves, nine digs and two set assists; Sarah Wallinger four kills and four digs; Addie Kettler nine digs and 22 set assists; Addison Steinhauser one block and one dig; Chianna Tubbs seven digs; and Trenadi Dodds six digs. Tuesday night the girls headed to OSM to play West Holt. The Broncos were ready and came out strong in the first set with good attacks at the net along with great defense. The Broncos lost the second set but were able to come back strong and aggressive in the third and fourth sets, taking both to get the girls in the Championship game. The final score ended in a well fought 3-1; 26-21, 18-25, 25-15 and 26-24. Paxton returns with another spectacular 26 kills, one block and nine digs; Estill 11 kills, one ace serve, one block, 15 digs and 19 set assists; Stracke eight kills, two ace serves, 15 digs and three set assists; Wallinger four kills, one ace serve, two blocks, four digs and one set assist; Kettler three kills, one ace serve, one block, four digs and one set assist; Steinhauser three kills and one dig; Tubbs one ace serve and 11 digs; and Dodds six digs. In the Championship game the girls had to take on the St. Mary's Cardinals at Summerland Friday night. The girls started out on fire, but St. Mary's hung in there and came back and won in a close first set. The Broncos battled back and won the second set with good attacks and aggressive serving, but it turned around in the third set with St. Mary's being the aggressors in serving and attacking. The fourth set was a good battle, but poor serve receives hurt the Broncos and the girls lost the set 25-27. The Broncos came home with the Runner-Up plaque, and the coaches and team would like to thank everyone that came and supported the girls throughout the Tournament. The final score for the finals was 1-3; 25-27, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-27. Paxton, for the third time, led with 22 kills, one ace serve and 27 digs; Estill 13 kills, four ace serves, one block, 16 digs and 13 assists; Stracke seven kills, two ace serves and 17 digs; Wallinger three kills, three ace serves, four digs and one set assist; Steinhauser three kills, two blocks and one dig; Kettler one kill, 10 digs and 30 set assists; Tubbs one ace serve and seven digs; and Dodds nine digs.
