Last week the Stuart basketball boys were pitted against some familiar foes from the previous season. In their last outing, the Broncos were able to clear both Chambers/Wheeler Central and Elgin/Pope John, but this go around there was more of a power struggle. Their first opponent, CWC, invited the Broncos last Tuesday, Jan. 13. It would be the Broncos to strike first, leaving the Renegades scrambling in their own game. The visitors were always one step ahead the competition, but sometimes they would really show what they were made of. The Broncos wrapped it up and came home victorious. Drew Schmaderer put in work with 19 points and 14 rebounds; Kayde Ramm had nine points and six rebounds; Trey Wallinger had eight points, five rebounds and two steals; Kaige Krieger had four points; and Nigel Addison had two points. The Broncos made a push in the second quarter to bring the score to 17-15 still to the Wolfpack. The game was met with a stalemate in the third but the ending would be the chance both teams needed to seize the day. Ultimately, it ended the way it started, with the Broncos falling behind and EPPJ comfortably sitting atop the scoreboard. Schmaderer made another stride with 15 points, four rebounds and three steals; Wallinger had six points and six rebounds; Ramm had four points, four rebounds and four steals; and Seth Connot and Addison both had two points each.
