Sister Helena Hager, age 94, passed away, Monday, July 25, 2011, at Marian Residence in Alliance.
Wake services were held Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Marian Chapel.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Marian Chapel with Father Lou Nollette officiating.
Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery in Alliance.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance was in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 26, 1916, at Anamoose, ND, to Anton and Magdalena (Kraft) Hager.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity at Stella Niagara, NY, on Sept. 7, 1935. She professed her vows on Aug. 17, 1937. She took the name of Sister M. Ludmilla. In 1969 she changed her name to Sister Helena.
She received training as a registered nurse in 1941 from St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot, ND, and as a registered anesthetist from St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL, in 1954. She also received her B.S. in Nursing Education in 1959 from St. Mary College in Xavier, KS. She worked as an anesthetist at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot, ND, in 1959 and Alliance from 1962 to 1970 when she moved to Marycrest in Denver. Sr. Helena continued with her hospital work at Mercy Medical Center in Denver. She returned toAlliance in 2000.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Joe, Theresa, Janice, Alice and Mary Lee.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her five brothers and four sisters.
