Shirley E. Osborn

Shirley Ellen (Duffield) Osborn, age 73, of Ainsworth, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill, surrounded by family and Pastor Nelson of Creighton.

There will be no services for Shirley at her request.

Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley was born on Jan. 15, 1939, in Long Pine, to Harold L. and Ellen M. (McNamee) Duffield. She was the third oldest of six siblings.

She was raised around the Long Pine and Bone Creek areas until her marriage to Gail Jefferson on Jan. 7, 1955, in Pierre, SD. To that union four children were born. They raised their family in Ainsworth.

Shirley married Glenn "Manny" Osborn on June 25, 1993. They enjoyed long drives in the country and trips to the casino until his death in 2008.

Shirley worked for over 30 years at the nursing home in Ainsworth receiving many awards for her work. She truly enjoyed caring for "her people." She never had any favorites, but many stole her heart. After her retirement she enjoyed helping Mrs. Betty Osborn with any chores that she needed doing and cherished the time they spent together.

Shirley is survived two sons, Rocky (Helen) and Michael all from Lyons; daughter, Kathy "Katie" Park and husband Donald "Dewayne" of O'Neill; five step children, Glenda Mason of Grand Island, Marty of Oklahoma, James, Tom and Charles Osborn, all of Ainsworth; two brothers, Harold (Lilly) of Grapeland, Texas and David (Jane) of Long Pine; a sister, Dorothy (Sam) Cochran of Sublime, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have been given six grandchildren as well as 11 great-grandchildren, all who loved her so very much. Shirley is also survived by her beloved dog Snoopy who had been her faithful companion since her husband's death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ellen Duffield; husbands Gail Jefferson and Glenn Osborn; son, Patrick "Chipper" Jefferson; brothers, Gene and Larry Duffield and nephew, Bucky Duffield.

The family wishes to thank Hospice, Home Health, Dr. Gutshall and the many wonderful nurses and assistants that comforted Shirley in her last weeks, especially Ms. Sladek and Ms. Wimmen. As mother used to say...."I'm alright."

Suggested donations should go to the Brown County Auxiliary or any cancer treatment organization of your choosing.
