Samuel L. Hobbs

Samuel L. Hobbs, age 33, of Ewing, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, from 7-9 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with Pastor Wayne Smith officiating. 

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ewing Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Ewing with Pastor Wayne Smith and Pastor Eric Ford officiating. Music was provided by organist, Doris Ann Bollwitt.

Pallbearers were Lincoln Schindler, Josh Spangler, Bryce Anderson, Ernie Whiting, Joel Briggs and Shawn Stenka.

Burial was in the Ewing City Cemetery in Ewing.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Lee Hobbs was born on Oct. 1, 1979, in Neligh, to Mark and the late Peggy Hobbs of Ewing. He graduated from Ewing Public High School in 1998. During high school Sam enjoyed football, power lifting and track. In football he went to state playoffs; in power lifting he placed third in the state; and in track he broke the school record in discus. After high school he attended Wyo-Tech in Laramie, WY, where he received an associate's degree in diesel mechanics.

Returning to Nebraska after college, Sam moved to Omaha where he was employed by Freightliner and Inland. He moved back to Ewing and married Janette Reynolds and to this union three children were born, Xavier, Landon and Jadyn.

Sam went to work at Elkhorn Woodworks in Clearwater where he made beautiful cabinets and woodworks. After his divorce he returned back to work at Hobbs Repair where he was a partner with his brother and best friend, Nick Hobbs.

He was very passionate about hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his children.

Sam is survived by his three children, Xavier, Landon and Jadyn, all of Ewing; his father and step-mother, Mark and Gwen Hobbs of Ewing; grandparents, Dorrence and Barbara Hobbs of Ewing and Bob and Lila Beed of Chambers; two brothers, Nick Hobbs and wife, Laura of Ewing and Jeff Hobbs and wife, Kristina of Colorado Springs, CO; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy (Beed) Hobbs and grandparents, Ken and Beryl Werner.

Sam was a very generous and amazing man. He was always there when you needed him He never spoke badly about anyone and he truly loved life. Sam is going to be greatly missed by all who knew him.
